BliksemOnce upon a time hardrock and metal bands didn’t just focus on writing heavy riff orientated songs to bang your head to and go nuts. No, from the genre’s pioneers –  Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath –  in the 70’s, to Bay Area thrashmetal inventors Metallica Testament and Death Angel in the 80’s and 90’s, there was once in a while an urge to transfer their deepest personal emotions via a classical, melodic ballad. However popular, in the 80’s and 90’s  the ballads seemed to disappear and metal bands were expected to solely express their anger and hatred, or escape in worlds of fantasy or occultism. Not so Belgian’s metal band BLIKSEM, known for their powerful melodic thrash metal. Going against the grain, frontlady Peggy Meeussen, for whom Janis Joplin was and still is a great inspiration, dares to reveal her personal life in this classical, almost forgotten subgenre within heavy music. Out of the Darkness…..Into the Light.
